In the role of Assistant Project Manager we'll count on you to:
  • Coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's life cycle (from development and initiation to close-out), while under supervision of a Project Manager
  • Responsible for many aspects of a small project or a single aspect of a larger project
  • Coordinate workload through project execution and complete deliverables on budget and schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager, Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • The primary duty of the Kansas City Highway APM is to work with a squad whose focus will be delivering projects for MoDOT, KDOT and KTA. Additionally, this position will build relationships with clients, develop pursuits, attract staff and work on project delivery in a production role. The Kansas City Highway APM will begin to work as a project manager capable of pursuing and delivering complex transportation projects for MoDOT, KDOT, and KTA. Familiarity with either/all these agencies and their standards and key staff is important. Project involvement will range from leading feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway projects, traffic management, site grading, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans. Roadway design and permanent and temporary traffic design experience is a key requirement for this position. Coordination of multi-discipline projects inclusive of survey, grading, drainage, structures, utilities, and layout of various site items is preferred.
  • Experience with supervising the work of small or medium size staff of professionals and technicians is beneficial. Quality assurance/control checks, and technical review experience is preferred. Marketing and project pursuit experience is beneficial to this position.
  • The position will also involve the preparation and negotiation of proposals, scopes, budgets, and schedules. It will also include day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the client, supporting and advising junior engineers and technical staff, author reports and technical memos, coordinating with sub-consultants, and keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Marketing and project pursuit experience
  • Well organized with multi-tasking skills
  • Experience with KDOT and/or MoDOT
  • Experience in managing and delivering highway projects in the MO/KS Area
  • Experience with supervising the work of a project team as a Project Manager
  • Experience with mentoring junior staff
  • Demonstrate firsthand experience using Microstation, Geopak, and/or InRoads design software in version SS2, SS4, and/or CONNECT.
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Document control experience (ProjectWise a plus)
  • Cheerful outlook and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture.
  • Project Management experience with an understanding of Earned Value desirable.
  • PE or equivalent licensure preferred.
  • Transportation-related project experience preferred.
  • Excellent marketing experience preferred.
  • Prior consulting experience preferred.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
  • PMP certification
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
