Job Description

Purolite, an Ecolab Company, the world leader in resin-based separation, purification and extraction technology, is seeking aFirst Chemical Plant Operator-Cation. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Performs simultaneously, the effective operation of two sulfonator/reactors and all associated valving, transfer pumps, exhaust blowers, other related equipment/process vessels and supporting services in accordance with published procedures.

  • Performs effective operation of diluter and acid storage tanks and all associated valving, transfer pumps, computer screens, other related equipment and supporting services in accordance with published procedures.

  • Exercises proper judgment in minimizing delays in sulfonator start times by ensuring materials are available for loading in proper sequence

  • Responsible for production times in related areas. Responsible for indicating on shift notes why production times exceed normal. Completes and initials all procedure steps and reports equipment delays to shift leader

  • Must qualify as a licensed forklift operator

  • Ability to maintain a clean work area, be trained in recordkeeping and review of ISO procedures and able to troubleshoot problems

  • Consistently follows plant GMP's

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Basic Function: OPERATE AND MONITOR SULFONATION PROCESS EQUIPMENT. MONITOR AND MAINTAIN QUALITY AND PRODUCT CYCLE TIMES AS ESTABLISHED. ORGANIZE AND MANIPULATE SUPPORTING SUPPLIES AND RAW MATERIALS FOR THE ABOVE FUNCTIONS.

Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

Previous mechanical and chemical processing skills are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

Must always be safety conscious for self and others. Computer literate with basic writing skills. Has the ability to initiate tasks and work in an independent manner. Must be able to communicate with visitors, professional and plant personnel.

Contacts and Relationships:

Interfaces with other department personnel in the corporate office, administration and plant locations as necessary

Requires good communication, interpersonal skills and interacts well with external customers, visitors, employees and management in other departments

Working Conditions:

Position operates in an environment in which there may be temperature extremes and exposure to weather, excessive noise and vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, hazardous chemicals, gases, odors, hot liquids or equipment. May work in high, low or confined spaces.

Physical Demands:

Physical requirements: Requires ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, up to and including sixteen hours; walk, bend, reach, grasp, handle, push, pull, twist, kneel, squat, carry and lift uneven loads. Lift floor to waist, lift waist level and above, including overhead, up to and including 60 lbs. Contact stress on body from tools, machines or equipment. Climb step stools, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Ability to roll drums on to and off of pallets potentially up to and including 500 lbs.

Visual requirements: Requires ability to use tools, machinery or lab equipment, including viewing computer screens, write and review documentation. Close visual acuity in order to perform mechanical or skilled trade tasks; inspect parts and machinery; fabricate or assemble parts. Ability to operate light and heavy equipment, motor vehicles.

Close visual acuity in order to read small print, analyze data, transcribe, determine the accuracy, neatness or thoroughness of assigned work or work area.

Hearing requirements: Talk and/or hear normal audible sounds including the spoken word and sounds over the telephone. Understand and convey spoken instructions accurately, softly, loudly or quickly, frequently in a noisy environment.

Mental requirements: Ability to comprehend complex information or instructions, interpret and convey information in a written or oral format.

Emotional demands: Ability and willingness to deal with high stress fast paced situations and make accurate and quick decisions.

Equipment use: Extensive computer use, frequent use of lab equipment, forklift, and other machinery and tools
