Responsibilities

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Research Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team at PeopleTec. This role is for applicants with experience working in a research and development team and interest in topics such as engineering physics, electronics, micro-/nano-scale systems, and biological sciences with a focus on scientific model-building and scientific hypothesis testing.

In this role, you will have an opportunity to work with a small team on a broad range of projects in Government and contractor laboratories. You will work under the mentorship of highly experienced researchers, who will challenge you to learn and grow in your career, and you will similarly be expected to grow in your ability to mentor more junior staff members and interns.

Collaborating with other engineers, biologists, chemists, physicists, and computer simulation experts, you will apply your education, experience, and expertise to research and develop sophisticated, fundamental models of currently under-studied and emerging areas of biology, electronics, and physics of interest to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Duties include:

    Research activities, including performing independent literature searches and writing literature reviews
  • Collaborative discussions with other researchers in multiple disciplines to generate and evaluate hypotheses
  • Generation of experiment plans for simulated and laboratory test campaigns to support statistical model inference and support model validation
  • Use of common computer software suites for simulation, calculation, scripting, document preparation, and results presentation as required (e.g. GROMACS, SPICE, Comsol, Matlab, Python, LaTeX, Microsoft Office)
  • Interpretation of experiment results and presentation of own results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Documentation and reporting, including technical contributions to proposals, to final reports for customers, and to publication-quality scientific literature
  • Participation in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to understand and contribute to the team's scientific direction, under guidance of senior personnel
Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • 1-3 years' experience in an R&D role
  • Project experience involving experiment design and physics-based computer modeling
  • Experience preparing scientific reports in LaTeX and Microsoft Office
  • Pursuing or completed a thesis- or dissertation-based curriculum for a graduate degree, or participating in research demonstrating comparable experience in scientific publication
  • Travel: 10 %
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Secret clearance is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Secret clearance upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, science, or engineering (3.5 GPA or higher)
