Description

The Landfill Foreman position is responsible to assist with coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA. Landfill Foremen help to ensure environmental safety and compliance are met while maintaining productivity.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Assist management with the daily activities of landfill staff.
  • Maintain landfill to meet requirements for EPA inspections.
  • Work with operators to ensure established production and quality control standards are met.
  • Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
  • Oversee operation of trash fill, site, and/or construction areas and complete necessary daily reports.
  • Track certifications of landfill staff and provide training as needed.
  • Ensure equipment preventive maintenance and repairs are being completed timely and efficiently.
  • Continuously monitor the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time.
  • Clean waste from equipment body and wheels or tracks.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies and ensure the same of others.
  • Professional interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with all employees, co-workers, and management.
  • Proficiently ensure all operating and labor tasks assigned are complete.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Must meet requirements for Heavy Equipment Operator.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged physical exertions, including sitting, standing, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing).
  • Ability to operate all landfill equipment proficiently.
  • Must be able to read and understand landfill plans and set grades using surveying equipment.
  • Must be familiar with EPA requirements regarding landfill operations.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Must be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirements.
  • Ability to work in conditions with exposure to weather elements.

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.

Qualifications

Education
High School (required)
General Education Diploma (preferred)

Experience
Construction background, a plus (preferred)
Surveying and GPS Experience (preferred)
Previous Foreman or Management Experience (preferred)
3 years: Landfill or Relevant Experience (required)
5 years: Experience Operating Heavy Equipment (required)
