Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and 3-5 years (or more) supervisory and retail management experience with a history of planning and driving store growth. Associate or higher degree preferred. Must be able to accept supervision and work in a team environment creating a positive and encouraging work environment for staff and volunteers. Must be computer literate, proficient in Microsoft products and database programs; have good written and verbal communication skills with customers, volunteers, staff, supervisors, service unit members and supporting organizations. Must be willing to support the philosophy, goals, mission, and objectives of The Salvation Army, possess a valid MN Drivers License, have a good driving record and meet the drivers MVR qualifications, and pass the background check. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first ninety (90) days of employment.

Summary of Position

Responsible for managing the Family Store in Owatonna, MN. This is a full time exempt position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week. This position directly supervises store workers and volunteers and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Salvation Army policies and applicable laws.

$45-55k salaried

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* The incumbent has the authority to take tangible actions against any direct report to include: (hire, discharge - (involuntary termination), demote, promote, transfer and discipline). However, all such tangible actions, with the exception of discipline that does not result in involuntary termination, are subject to final review and approval by the Divisional Finance Board, DFB.

* Maintain a positive and encouraging work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with staff, volunteers (including Service Unit Committee volunteers), supervisors, and customers. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, volunteers, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and bout clients, co-workers and supervisors. Interaction in these relationships should always be respectful and professional. No less will be accepted.

* Sort and open incoming mail for distribution.

* Count and verify all daily case receipts, endorse checks and prepare bank deposits for the Family store and complete financial spreadsheets as directed by the Divisional Headquarters Finance Department policies and procedures. This position is responsible for securing all cash on hand.

* Ensure cashier duties are covered at all times, including receiving and directing incoming phone calls and greeting customers.

* Provide guidance and assistance to customers in a pleasant and professional manner. Investigate customers' problems/complaints and respond in a professional manner following policies and procedures set forth in the Family Store Manual.

* Comply with and enforce personnel, client and Service Unit confidentiality.

* Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and terminate (as needed) all personnel, volunteers, other non-profit agency workers, public service employment workers, and other workers assigned to this site to ensure compliance with directives and guidelines.

* Develop staff schedule to ensure the store is adequately staffed at all times. Review, approve and forward all employee time sheets to the Service Extension Director at Divisional Headquarters.

* Schedule volunteers and compile monthly total of volunteer hours and forward information to the Service Extension Department at Divisional Headquarters. Provide required information to the appropriate person to enter into Volunteer Impact.

* Oversee the sorting, tagging, pricing and delivering of donated items to the sales floor.

* Oversee all departments and ensure that an adequate inventory is maintained on the sales floor.

* Oversee and participate in the storage of donated items and in the accumulation of overstocked donations.

* Order needed supplies and maintain accurate inventory of goods on hand.

* Develop and fiscally manage the store's annual budget.

* Provide material assistance from the store's inventory to fire victims, referrals and walk-in clients in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth by the local Service Unit committee. Forward all documentation to the Case Worker and Service Unit Area Manager in a timely manner.

* Identify mechanical and/or property issues within the store and determine resolutions before consulting with the Area Manager and/or Service Unit Chairperson.

* Provide a written monthly status report to the service unit detailing the store's activity and needs.

* Report all safety hazards, including property and casualty claims, according to The Salvation Army policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the protection of personnel, property, and building. All losses should be immediately reported to the Area Manager.

* Ensure the store maintains an attractive sales floor.

* Maintain a high level of cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store.

* Attend team meetings, workshops, Family store managers meetings, staff training and other training activities as assigned. Arrange staff (including volunteers as appropriate) meetings no less than monthly. Keep personnel informed of new policies and directives.

* Represent The Salvation Army as recommended and approved by the Area Manager.

* Complete other tasks as assigned by the Area Manager and/or Service Unit Chairperson for the effective and efficient operation of the Family store.
