Buildings and General Services at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a Maintenance Specialist with Operations and Maintenance.
As part of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team you will work as part of a group and independently. This position serves the Capital District in Montpelier, which includes the state house and many historic buildings. The Maintenance Specialist will work primarily on grounds and outdoor maintenance. This position will also be asked to assist with other duties as assigned including but not limited to; electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and lock repair.
This is a full-time position, and the hours are 6am - 2:30pm. The position requires a valid driver's license and successful completion of a background check.

Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional and mental health facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. Position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
State licensure at or above the journeyman level in any trade area.
OR
Four (4) or more years of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance INCLUDING one (1) or more year in a specialized trade (plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
Experience in carpentry, welding, locksmithing, public water systems operations, horticultural, and/or pesticide application.
Some positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.
