Job Description

This is a 2nd shift role, working a standard base schedule of Monday-Thursday, 2:30pm-1:00am.

This position reports to the Production Supervisor and has responsibilities for the set up and operation of multiple gear-cutting and or finishing machines as listed and required in the essential duties and responsibilities section.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to set up and operate multiple gear-cutting / finishing machines, such as gear shaper and Hobbs.
  • Must be able to machine spline or gear teeth on metal blanks according to machining instructions, gear types, and the best recognized gear machining practices.
  • Deburr finished parts as required per job traveler.
  • Using work orders and prints, must be able to determine gear dimensions, specifications, fixtures, cutters and machine settings
  • Verifies conformance of parts to specifications using visual inspection, gages, micrometers, and other precision measuring devices.
  • Required to maintain accurate and timely transactions in the ERP system.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Basic gear cutting machine maintenance.
  • Reads drawings to ensure correct quantity of teeth, type of cutter, standard or non-standard part, use of pins, specifications and tolerances.
  • Records scrap quantity and complete corrective action form. Forward scrap and completed corrective action form to the inspector.
  • As required, selects feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut and tools for each operation appropriate for work pieces
  • May be required to train other employees and help in other departments as directed.
  • This position is also responsible for, with authority to follow ISO procedures, initiate action to prevent problems, document quality problems, contribute to problem solutions, verify implementation of solutions, control further processing when a problem is identified, protect the environment, including preventing pollution, analyzing or identifying areas for correction or improvement.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to travel as required and /or directed.
