The candidate will serve as the Nuclear Training Manager for the Laboratory, reporting to the Learning and Development Manager. As part of our team, you will work in a research environment with other nuclear safety professionals, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to develop and maintain the nuclear training and qualification program for BNL's Radionuclide Research and Production Laboratory (RRPL) and future nuclear facilities. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with staff from a diverse set of backgrounds while facilitating the production of life-changing radioisotopes that have shown amazing promise as therapeutics against aggressive cancers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain, and serve as the interpretive authority for procedures outlining training protocols in accordance with DOE Order 426.2A and the Nuclear Facility Training Program.

  • Provide guidance and interface between departments/divisions on nuclear training topics and requirements.

  • Periodically evaluate the nuclear training program against required documents and update the training program as appropriate.

  • Maintain the Training implementation Matrix (TIM) and prepare required periodic updates for DOE review and approval.

  • Develop and perform the following activities, as needed:

    • Develop the conduct of training needs assessments to identify the knowledge, skills, and abilities required in specific jobs.

    • Conduct job and task analyses to identify critical tasks and task elements requiring training.

    • Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional aids, and examinations necessary to support initial and continuing training.

    • Implement developed training in various settings (i.e., classroom, OJT, performance demonstration).

    • Develop, administer, and grade written, oral, walkthroughs, operational, and scenario examinations.

  • Manage the nuclear training assessment program, including completing and/or assigning and tracking completion of required assessments.

  • Manage operational drills and exercise programs, including performing and/or directing planning, developing, and conducting drills and exercises.

  • Manage nuclear training records and provide support for maintenance and storage of these records.

  • Serve as the qualification authority for nuclear instructors.

  • Maintain instructor qualification.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Position requires 6 years related experience, of which 4 years experience in a nuclear environment, and a minimum of 2 years demonstrated leadership experience for a team, project or program.

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience for higher degrees)

    • Bachelors coursework and/or certification should include education or training with a focus on instructional analysis, design, development, delivery and testing of programs.

  • Hands on experience with classroom and web-based training design and delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience using a systematic approach (e.g., ADDIE) for training design and delivery.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and communications skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively.

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and focused on high-quality delivery of work products.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Robust understanding and experience with the implementation of the requirements contained in DOE Order 426.2A

  • Prior experience in a nonreactor nuclear hot cell facility

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people having a wide range of technical and scientific backgrounds

Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $121700 - $194250 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
