WVU Libraries is currently accepting applications for a Student Supervisor in the area of Knowledge Access and Resource Management.

About the Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Ordering & Receiving Manager, the incumbent is responsible for hiring, budgeting, scheduling and coordinating the evaluation of approximately 8-10 KARM student assistants. They will manage student worker special projects and daily tasks, perform copy cataloging, coordinate all physical gift processing workflows, and provide database maintenance support in the library management system.

What you'll do:

  • Oversee and coordinate day-to-day activities and concurrent student projects for all three units (Ordering & Receiving, Metadata Services, and Electronic Resources of the Knowledge, Access, and Resource Management (KARM) department).
  • Provide project management support for five phases of project management life cycle, especially timely completion of project tasks in order to meet project timeline, communicating with stakeholders on project progress.
  • Identify and complete projects related to changes in physical collections, including communication and coordination with appropriate libraries and departments as needed.
  • Participate in project initiation and planning activities to understand project specifications, tasks, and milestones.
  • Correspond and coordinate with WVU Library donors, and answer questions regarding our gift policies. Arrange donation date/time with donors for small (>20 boxes) medium (20-50 boxes), and large gift donations (50-100+ boxes).
  • Physically accept all gift donations for all WVU library locations; manage and organize KARM's gift space for incoming donations, collections, and materials.
  • Hire, schedule, discipline and/or terminate, and develop a budget for 8-10 student assistants in the department. Responsible for training of students specializing in departmental daily receiving/processing tasks (newspapers, periodicals, monographs, labeling, etc.), project workflows, and the library's ILS software, WorldCat Management System (WMS). Write and update manual for use in student training. Grant access and role permissions in our library's ILS for students.
  • Evaluate student worker performance and provides feedback, guidance, and performs progressive discipline of student workers due to performance issues or gross misconduct (i.e., time fraud) and works with the Student Employment office as necessary.

Pay grade: 14

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 6 months or more
    • Library or Technical Services experience
    • Supervision experience
    • Integrated library system experience
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple workflows concurrently.

  • Familiarity with library collection management

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Basic knowledge of bibliographic records and MARC format.

  • Excellent computer skills; must be proficient in the use of e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent customer service skills are required.
