Position Title: Field Instructor Facilitator
Department: Instructional Services / Northwest Outdoor Science School
Location: Outdoor School (Various Locations in NW Oregon)
Reports To: Outdoor School Site Supervisor
Compensation: 2024-2025 NOSS Salary Schedule ($22.46-$26.83 per hour)
Fall 2024 Session Dates: August 29, 2024 - November 14, 2024
Spring 2025 Session Dates: February 3, 2025 - June 3, 2025

General Description
The Outdoor School Field Instructor Facilitator organizes the field instructors with the
daily operations of overnight Northwest Outdoor Science School and provides guidance
with instructional practices.

Qualifications; To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   1. High school graduate with at least 2 years of college experience or equivalent
    experience (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
  2. Previous employment or volunteer experience in overnight outdoor education
    programs, preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
1. Exhibit leadership, enthusiasm, maturity, compassion, responsibility, flexibility,
and initiative.
2. Ability to work successfully with children and adults in a residential environment.
3. Ability to communicate and provide feedback to counselors and program staff.
4. Enjoy being outdoors in all types of weather.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Include the following. Performs some or all of the following
tasks. Other Duties may be assigned. The duties listed below are not inclusive, but
characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.
A. Support the staff and Outdoor Science School policies in planning and carrying out all
phases of the program.
B. Work with the Site Supervisors to train and mentor field instructor staff and
provide regular feedback to improve instruction.
C. Lead middle-school students and counselors (high school and college volunteers) in
daily instruction and classroom management
D. Train, mentor and coach, student leaders or volunteers
E. Assist with emergency situations as needed.
F. Other duties as assigned. May include teaching on field study and filling in for Site
Supervisor if they need to leave the site.

This position is overnight, requiring the employee to live on-site during the work week Monday-Friday. Room and board are provided. Our program operates at multiple sites in Northwest Oregon near the following communities; Vernonia, Salem, Cloverdale, Rockaway Beach, and one site TBD. This position is temporary, but there may be an opportunity available to continue employment in future sessions.
Employee will be compensated 50 hours per week. Weekly schedule varies from Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday. Most work weeks are 5 days. Due to the seasonal camp-based nature of this position, it is exempt for state overtime wage regulations.
