This position provides technical support to the Polk State Theatre and Arts Department. This position follows procedures within a well defined field under direct supervision.

Essential Duties/Functions

  • Consults with internal and external facility users, production managers, and lighting and sound designers about technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment required for individual shows and scenery design. Assists with the supervision and implementation of approved technical designs.
  • Designs, installs, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for more than 40 various productions and events per year, including but not limited to: theater, music, dance, and other productions and projects; assists guest designers and artists with technical matters.
  • Arranges for the repair and replacement of theater gear and structures within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on related equipment.
  • Assists the Theater Technician Supervisor with operation, and maintenance of all the performing arts equipment and facilities. Operates and maintains equipment such as lighting, sound systems, communications systems, and related theater equipment and facilities,
  • Supervises load-in and load-out of theatrical equipment
  • Attends technical rehearsals to supervise the technical aspects of productions.
  • Distributes tools and equipment to be used in theatrical and musical productions.
Required Skills
  • Good organizational skills, with special attention to details.
  • The ability to establish an effective rapport with part-time and full-time faculty
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and window based software.
  • Requires ability to work independently on broader assignments with the responsibility for the planning of work. Makes decisions within accepted standards.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires early morning, evening, and weekend work based on theatre production schedule.

Salary and Benefits Information

  • This position is a level C15. Please see below for specific salary range.

Required Education

  • Graduation with a high school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Two years of theatre technical experience required.
