(Sr.) Manager of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

Our client, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, is looking for a (Sr.) Manager of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to join their growing team.

LOCATION:
Redwood City, CA. Hybrid capacity: they would like the candidate to come into the office one to two days a week.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
As the (Sr.) Manager of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting, you will have a direct impact on ensuring compliance with public company reporting and accounting rules for a recently public and fast-growing biotech company.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will be responsible for executing and/or managing SEC reporting and technical accounting activities, supporting book closing activities such as preparation of journal entries, financial analyses and other supporting financial documentation, and assisting in other activities as required such as the administration of our share-based compensation programs, oversight of collaboration arrangements, coordination of audit activities and assistance with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the SEC processes including preparation of 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and proxy statement
  • Manages and/or prepares, analyzes, and reconciles all financial statements and related reports including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, and variance analysis for MD&A
  • Manages and/or assists with technical accounting matters (i.e., collaboration arrangements, financing transactions, new accounting guidance, etc.). Keeps up to date on new and/or revised accounting guidance - drafts technical memos and supports implementation of required process changes
  • Assists with coordination of external audit activities related to the annual audit and quarterly reviews
  • Assists with the management of the Sarbanes-Oxley activities including updating system documentation, testing controls, remediating control deficiencies and coordination efforts with the auditors
  • Manages or prepares analyses in support of all business functions
  • Works across departments to facilitate activities (general counsel, human resources, clinical operations, etc.)
  • Assists with the management of the equity-based systems (EEO) from granting of new awards, coordinating information flow with human resources/payroll, shared-based compensation calculations and financial reporting


REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPA or CMA license Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent
  • Pharmaceutical / Life Science industry experience preferred
  • At least 5 years of related experience and/or training
  • Working knowledge of SEC reporting, technical accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley rules
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in accounting systems (NetSuite), Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

COMPENSATION:
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $185K + bonus. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
