About this Position
This position will support the projects from our Phoenix, Arizona office and will consist of approximately 50-75% fieldwork on projects across Arizona. Fieldwork may include a variety of environmental sampling as referred to below and may require travel for extended periods (i.e., 2+ weeks at a time in Arizona or other western states). Applicants should be self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills, and be willing to work in a growing office setting away from the company’s headquarters.
Candidates must be interested in performing a variety of tasks, which may include tasks such as completing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); soil logging during the completion of soil borings/groundwater monitoring well installation; collection of soil and groundwater samples; assisting with regulatory compliance efforts such as permitting; and writing technical reports summarizing field investigations. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those stated above. Training (internal or external) will be provided as required by the task and individual experience.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Preliminary Investigation, Remedial Investigations, and Environmental audits.
  • Perform field tasks, such as soil logging, preparation of boring logs, monitoring well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, water level/groundwater gradient surveys, ground elevation surveys, etc., with minimal supervision.
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and report on site investigations.
  • Drive company, rental, or personal vehicles (mileage will be reimbursed) to report to job sites, sample delivery, etc.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively throughout the project lifecycle; proactively responds to internal and external client requests.
  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (geology, soil characteristics, chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.
  • Maintain project documents and records in an organized and easily understood fashion.
     
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geologic Engineering, GeoScience or similar field.  Education and experience can be substituted for a degree.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience completing Phase I and Phase II ESAs, subsurface investigations, site characterization, subcontractor oversight, borehole logging, monitoring well construction, technical writing, and/or soil and groundwater sampling.
  • GIT or ability to obtain your GIT within 6 months required.
  • Completion of 40-hour OSHA training is preferred but not required; however, the expectation is that the candidate will complete training as required.
  • Applicant must be familiar with (or become familiar with) the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).
  • Asbestos sampling experience and certifications beneficial.
  • Lead sampling experience and certifications beneficial.
  • Candidates should have the capacity to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather, extended workdays or work weeks may be required.
  • Work-related travel in Arizona will be required. Travel may be overnight and sometimes week(s) at a time.
  • Work-related travel outside of Arizona may be required.
