Job Summary
The Vessel Purchasing Specialist is responsible for optimizing and facilitating full cycle procurement activities for assigned vessels.

Primary Objectives
  • Coordinate timely processes and communications with Vessel Management teams and suppliers to ensure procurement needs are met promptly and efficiently.
  • Improve and streamline processes, audits, and documentation to optimize supply chain and reduce expenses.
  • Analyze, track, and monitor Key Performance Metrics.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage vessel management in planning for routine and custom ordering for vessel equipment and supplies.
  • Solicit and compile equipment and supply needs, specifications, and deadlines.
  • Research and recommend suppliers, monitor availability, and optimize savings; support vendor negotiations and participate in vendor due diligence processes.
  • Initiate, prepare, and process purchase orders to ensure delivery with required timeframes.
  • Maintain, update, and audit purchasing and contracts files and systems.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard processes and procedures; identify areas of opportunity and recommend best practices.
  • Monitor compliance with contracts and regulations related to vendor selection and documentation.
  • Expedite delayed orders and resolve issues with changes, returns, replacements, and credit arrangements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure accuracy of invoices and prompt payment to suppliers.
  • Prepare, review, and present reports and summaries of purchasing activities and expenses.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Some college coursework preferred
Work Experience
  • 4+ years of experience in a purchasing/procurement role in the marine equipment, industrial supply, or closely related industry required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles, processes, and best practices related to equipment purchasing and industrial or vessel equipment or machinery
  • Ability to identify complex problems, use logic and reasoning to review related information, develop and evaluate options, make conclusions, and recommend solutions
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, determine resource requirements, and necessary sequence of activities needed to achieve goals
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing business conditions
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a geographically dispersed team
  • Demonstrated ability to apply general math concepts
  • General understanding of world geography
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • General knowledge of Vessel Management Software Nautical Systems 5 (NS5)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products at the following levels: ? Excel: Intermediate level of skill Word, Teams, Outlook: Basic level of skill
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Vessel Management Software Nautical Systems 5 (NS5) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vessel operations is preferred

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include related experience, education and training, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary range for this role is set forth below. Ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone 4: Starting rate $60,000; up to $80,000 for highly qualified candidates
