POSITION SUMMARY:

This position reports to the Director of Supply Chain Manager and is responsible to develop and maintain commodities strategies to support the company material supply chain; Evaluates market conditions and proposed mitigation strategies in order to maintain optimal inventory levels, procure items on time and control cost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages key supplier relationships, delivery escalations and cost optimization

Ensures adequate capacity exists in the supply chain for components of assigned products, coordinates forecasts, ensures end of life requirements are flowed down

Defines sourcing contracts / supply agreements and ensures appropriate contractual agreements are in place addressing flow down requirements, capacity, cost, and commercial requirements

Aligns with appropriate functions outside of supply chain and drives alignment of supplier selection to global supply strategy and the preferred supplier list

Understands and can demonstrate, diagram and measure the value add activities in a sub-tier value chain

Derives plans and methods for optimizing the costs associated with a products value chain

Ensure lead times and source strategy is understood by the product development team and documented as the plan of record

Within project teams foster a culture of accountability and commitment to stated goals and objectives

JOB SCOPE:

The person must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. He/she has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing work processes. The Commodity manager and staff are held accountable for the profitable performance of the work group. Failure to meet the expectations of the customer could result in significant loss of future business.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

The role is an individual contributor

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

Reports directly to the Director of Supply Chain Management but also has accountability to the Senior Business Managers for the respective business entities supported by the purchasing department.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, Strong leader, self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented, hands-on and results driven

Complete knowledge of all aspects of purchasing, supplier selection, cost analysis, and negotiation, planning master scheduling and program management

Work independently in fast paced environment, Contract management, negotiation and implementation

Ability to concisely communicate escalations, requirements and issues to suppliers, stakeholders, peers and upper management with clarity; Ability to influence cross functional teams including technical decision makers

Experience working in ERP & MRP systems; IFS preferred

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

BA/BS degree in business, finance, accounting, engineering or equivalent combination of experience and/or education is required.

Minimum five (5) in supply chain or Purchasing related functions; 10 years Operations Experience Specific experience and knowledge of shipyard operations is preferred. Experience in successfully negotiating high value subcontracts is required. Track record of successfully negotiating claims or disputes preferred. Experience in drafting contracts and/or work specifications is preferred. The person must have experience with accounting and cost accounting systems, material and procurement systems and data processing systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:CPM, CPIM, APP or APIC certification helpful.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. The person may be required to be in production areas in yard and onboard ships. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. He/she must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders and lift up to 20 pounds. The individual may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There may be local travel up to 10% of the time and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:While in production areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
