The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Skilled Trades Supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires four (4) years of journey-level experience in the area of assignment, including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.

General Description

The Skilled Trades Supervisor position with the Port Everglades Seaport Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for supervisory and administrative work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities at Port Everglades. Work involves the assignment of and review of subordinates performing varied duties within the Plumbing construction trade but could also include and is not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, air conditioning, welding, gates, doors, loading bridges, electric, and other related trade groups. Depending on functional responsibility areas, this position is also responsible for planning, laying out, assigning, and coordinating with administrative supervisors the daily maintenance and repairs performed by assigned Port personnel, assigning personnel, inspecting facilities, and administering the preventive maintenance program for assigned trades. Ensures that proper safety procedures and equipment are used; inspects Port facilities to ensure proper operations, maintenance, and repairs are performed and completed per code and OEM requirements; assists with preparation of the Division's annual budget and recommends cost control measures; maintains records and submits reports; exercises considerable independent judgment concerning job priorities and methods and materials to be used on each project. This position will also serve as a primary contact on weekends on a rotating basis.


Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Port Security Identification Badge for the duration of employment.
Depending on the area of assignment, a Florida Class A/B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Passenger Transport Endorsement must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.

Preferences
Bachelor's degree in Business, Facilities, or Construction Management or a closely related field
Florida Master Plumber License (current)
2+ years experience using CMMS, Asset Works/AiM or equal Work Management System software
2+ years of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint experience
3+ years of public facilities maintenance/skilled trades supervisory experience
Current State of Florida general contractor's license
Vocational or Associate's degree in Business, Facilities, or Construction Management or a closely related field
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Prioritizes staff assignments, plans, and implements work projects and methods; determines the application procedure and oversees the purchasing of all materials; submits requisition forms and specifications for supplies and materials; helps determine what new equipment should be purchased and what equipment is needed for various projects; performs and oversees equipment maintenance and planning for support of heavy equipment as needed.

Determines if safety hazards exist and implements necessary corrections; inspects buildings and grounds for various needed repairs and maintenance.

Plans assigns and supervises tradesmen, equipment operators, and maintenance personnel engaged in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, loading bridge mechanics, carpentry, painting, and other associated trade work to repair and perform preventative maintenance. Inspects jobs in progress as well as completed jobs and assignments.

Oversees requisition of parts and supplies, checks and orders stock and repair parts, repairs, replaces, diagnoses, and troubleshoots plant equipment and machinery.

Consults and assists other districts/divisions within Broward County.

Assumes the duties of superior when needed; handles personnel issues regarding attendance, leave requests, paperwork, filing, staff meetings, purchase tracking, and recording approvals of requests as needed.

Inputs data and work logs into a computer or tablet; communicates with peers and upper management on any maintenance or repair-related issues.

Performs related work as assigned.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 25 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
