Director, Student Engagement and Support - Central Campus

FUNCTION: The function of the Director, Student Engagement and Support is to lead, plan, develop, promote, and evaluate daily and long-term departmental operations related to system-wide co-curricular programs and services to enhance the overall educational experiences of students through social, multi-cultural, intellectual, recreational, community service, and campus governance initiatives.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Direct, plan, assess, and evaluate all initiatives and activities related to Student Engagement and Support to ensure agreed key performance measures are met.
  • Manage relationships with internal partners across the college district to promote collaboration and ensure consistent/uniform application of all functions, processes, and services within Student Engagement and Support.
  • Direct the development of programming and activities on the campuses with other departments to develop student facing programming that celebrates equity, inclusivity and awareness on campus and support student retention efforts, which will also ensure compliance with legislative awareness requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Student Support Resources to plan, implement and evaluate the programs and services on the campus that support both the accomplishment of the College's annual goals and strategic plan.
  • Ensure regular evaluation of assigned staff and make appropriate recommendations in accordance with college policies and procedures. Oversee management and motivation of student engagement personnel through specific initiatives and their own activities.
  • Maintain and allocate budgets from multiple funding streams while remaining current on all laws and guidelines applicable to the use of state funds and foundation dollars. This includes financial donations from the foundation and local entities.
  • Oversee the creation and development of programs, policies, and services in support of student engagement and success.
  • Provide financial oversight of Student Organizations, club budgets and fundraising dollars, according to College rules and regulations including ensuring compliance of P-Cards by student organization advisors according to policies established by SJC and the state.
  • Oversee and direct recreational sports programming, clubs/organizations, Student Government Organization, and student leadership in line with industry best practices.
  • Oversee and direct student support resource programs coordinated by SES including but not limited to the Campus Food Markets, Coat Racks, and Cafe Meal Assistance Program
  • Provide oversight and direction in the development and implementation of a student leadership curriculum and leadership programming college wide.
  • Build, develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders that provide students with access to social support resources and additional opportunities for leadership and engagement.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Coordinate with the Student Support Resources Leadership team to determine unit needs and implement services.
  • Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Serve as department liaison and on campus/college committees as requested.
  • When applicable, travel with SGA officers and student leaders to conferences and other developmental opportunities.
  • Research, implement, and oversee technology used by departments to serve students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess the ability to work well with students, student groups, and college faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to collect, interpret and use data for decision making
  • Excellent oral and written communications, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills
  • Must possess computer literacy and good organizational skills
  • Must embrace a philosophy of servant leadership and foster a positive working environment
  • Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously and to develop and complete new projects and programs with little supervision
  • Able to work with students, alumni, and community members with diverse backgrounds
  • Possess the ability to effectively supervise, train, and develop staff
  • Possess skills to maintain a fair and decisive leadership style with the ability to make independent judgments
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate outcomes and effectiveness of projects/programs
  • Ability to interpret and enforce college policy
  • Able to prepare and maintain multiple budgets and reports.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.

Preferred Education:
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college/university is preferred.

Required Experience:
  • Minimum of three years successful professional experience in one or more areas: planning and implementing events and activities, coordinating support services, and/or organizing and delivering programming or training for groups.
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing multiple budgets.
  • Minimum of two years' experience supervising professional staff.

Preferred Experience:
  • Full-time experience in one or more areas: planning and implementing events and activities, coordinating support services, and/or organizing and delivering programming or training for groups.
  • Experience with planning and implementing student activities, student union/center programs, residence hall programs, recreational center activities, or other closely related experience.

Note: This position has the opportunity for remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 119
