The Clinical Documentation Specialist role involves the evaluation of physician documentation, utilizing clinical expertise to ensure that the patient's severity of illness and risk of mortality are accurately portrayed in the medical record for specificity and increased coding accuracy. Interacts with physicians, clinical staff, and health information management professionals. Works with coding staff to ensure that documentation of discharge diagnoses and any co-existing co-morbidities are a complete reflection of the patient's clinical status and care.
Key Responsibilities:
Depending on CDS experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the professional level 3 or level 4. The professional level 4 requires an active CCDS/CDIP certification.
This position is not remote. Positions are on-site, face-to-face, and during normal business hours (days) Monday-Friday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSSeven (7+) or more years of relevant inpatient clinical experience OR three (3+) or more years of relevant inpatient clinical experience and a bachelor's degree in nursing or related area.
Experience with the clinical and operational issues involved with inpatient care, including the diagnoses, treatments, medical procedures, complications, co-morbidities, discharge, and other practices that are part of effective clinical care systems.
Professional work experience as Clinical Documentation Specialist. If insufficient application pool, department may consider clinicians (RNs or MDs) with three (3+) or more years of experience in acute adult Telemetry and/or ICU.
Demonstrated adult ICU or Telemetry work experience.
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of physicians, advanced practice providers and staff.
MSN or other Master's degree.
Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).

Annual Full Pay Range: $91,300 - $170,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $43.73 - $81.75
