JOB SUMMARY:

A Natural Resources Specialist plays a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and combating invasive species. As an Natural Resources Specialist, you'll work closely with our team of experts, including the Forester and Invasive Plant Management Technician, to manage invasive plant species and contribute to various land use initiatives. This roles primary responsibility will involve conducting fieldwork to identify, document, and eradicate invasive plants. This position is grant funded by the USDA for 1000 hours of temporary work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct comprehensive inventories of areas, including future and current timber harvest sites, to identify invasive plant species and assess tree stocking levels.
  • Document the presence of invasive species and prescribe proactive measures to prevent their spread.
  • Utilize both power equipment and hand tools to independently and collaboratively remove invasive plants. Utilization of new technology to treat invasive plant species.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external vendors to address larger-scale invasive plant populations.
  • Support timber sale layout and firewood program administration.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Authority's Land Use Plan and adhere to safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in environmental studies, forestry, or related fields; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Driver's License required - trailer experience preferred
  • Prior experience in botanical identification and map reading
  • Proficiency in GIS and GPS technology
  • Preferred experience in natural resources management and the operation of chainsaws and herbicides.
  • Physical fitness necessary for fieldwork.
