The Coordinator for Access and Advisor Support will be a part of the Student Success Center team and provide strategic leadership and oversight for academic advising including faculty advising within the Virginia Community College System. This position responsibilities include supporting G3 Academic Advisors and other advisors, collaborating with academic departments, and developing data-driven initiatives to improve student success and retention. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for student success with a deep understanding of community college environments and a commitment to equity and inclusion. This coordinator will serve as a liaison to the colleges. They will have a knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of underserved populations to successfully support the coaches and advisors working with Virginia's diverse population. They will be providing support for system wide professional development activities with a lens towards faculty and staff.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of advising or community college advising practices
  • Knowledge of faculty advising
  • Knowledge of research and trends in advising knowledge of career development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of underserved populations
  • Knowledge of student barriers and current evidence-based solutions
  • Knowledge of and experience in the college setting
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and training practices Knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of underserved populations and a commitment to supporting advisors working with Virginia's diverse population.

  • Skill in using web-based technology such Zoom, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office products.

Education/Experience
  • Education, experience and/or coursework equivalent to a bachelor's or master's degree in advising, especially academic advising
  • Knowledge of student barriers and current evidence-based solutions
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and work effectively with multi-cultural populations that support diversity, cultural understanding and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; work in a demanding, fast-paced environment with changing priorities; and adhere to required timelines meeting work priorities and objectives
