The Data Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will create and maintain fully automated data pipelines feeding data lakes, data warehouses, and information marts. Analyze, design, develop, deploy and support software solutions. Develop software using continuous deployment and integration practices. Participate in an Agile implementation and maintenance of source control and release procedures. Participate in Code Reviews and feedback to team. Work with traditional row optimized databases (including DB2, MS SQL, and MySQL), columnar databases (including Redshift and PBIX), and no SQL data structures (including mongo and cosmos). Write and review complex ELT\ETL processes. Work with cloud data solutions such as Databricks, Presto, and Dagster as well as Python, SQL, and Scala. Use GitLab to manage code in multiple environments. Review code and perform regression and integration testing needed as part of DevOps practices. Acquire, analyze, combine, synthesize, and store data from a wide range of internal and external sources as it pertains to model development. Code with Python, JVM (including Java and Scala), and SQL. Utilize Agile methodologies and work with database systems including MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle Database. Develop timely and effective solutions for challenging system design problems. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $108,568 - $153,010 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field, plus 2 years (or a bachelor's degree plus 5 years) of experience as a software developer or related occupation. Experience must include 2 years with each of the following: (1) software engineering, debugging, and software documentation; (2) coding with Python, JVM (including Java and Scala), and SQL; (3) Agile methodologies in a DevOps environment; (4) working with database systems including MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle Database; (5) database practices including data integrity, data security, and data privacy; (6) Data Integration Patterns and Tooling including ELT/ETL and SSIS; and (7) analyzing, identifying, and resolving data issues by writing SQL queries and SQL procedures.
