Position Description

Performs specialized work in conducting original research. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

Full-time seasonal (June - December) fieldwork position with benefits including: 100% paid medical, TRS retirement, sick and vacation leave. We would consider someone who could work through 15 August.

The successful applicant will assist in a study examining the influence of an integrated intensive management program on Northern Bobwhite demographics. This job will entail trapping, banding, and tracking northern bobwhite through rugged terrain using both VHF and GPS telemetry.
Lodging provided.
This is a field position which requires independent thinking and the ability to be comfortable working alone for days at a time.

Essential Functions include:

* Problem-solve and work independently (potentially outside of cell service).

* Work in wide range of inclement conditions including hot and cold temperatures, hiking over rough terrain, and working very early mornings.

* Trap, band, and place necklace style radio-transmitters and GPS backpack transmitters on northern bobwhites.

* Nest cover vegetation surveys using common vegetation sampling techniques

* Radio telemetry- Paid experience desired.

* Data entry and record keeping using Microsoft Excel, OneDrive, and other typical office software.

* Use and basic upkeep (checking fluids, keeping clean, fixing flats as needed) of UTVs and 4x4 trucks.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a specialized field and one year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience with radio telemetry is highly desired, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
  • Upland game experience.

Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all TTU employees.

Occasional Duties

  • Deploy scent stations to monitor meso-predators using trail cameras
  • Participate in spring and fall call counts
  • Care for captive bobwhites in the research facility
  • Participate in outreach events
  • Assist with UAV flights as a visual observer
  • Light duty construction projects and building, and vehicle maintenance.
