Job Summary

GateWay Community College's Advising department offers an exciting opportunity to support enrollment and outreach efforts prospective, new and continuing in the following degree programs: Behavioral Science, Business, Computer Information Systems, Culture and Society, Education, STEM and Visual and Performing Arts. This position serves as campus representation and an ambassador to assist students through holistic enrollment and pre-advising strategies to meet the needs of students and support their college journey. Through outreach initiatives, college-wide celebrations, and community outreach programs, the Enrollment Specialist will eagerly seek out new students through communication and engagement to connect them to campus resources to support their college experience. This position has an end date of 08/30/2024.

Essential Functions

50% - Assists with planning, processing and implementation of student advisement including admission process, placement requirements needed for the student enrollment process. The duties of the Enrollment Specialist include enrolling students into college, pre-advising enrolled students, assisting with course enrollment, and offering assistance to guarantee program completion through one-on-one and group advising

40%- Maintain interest in current and potential students through outreach programs and activities such as new student orientation, and FOI student engagement events. These strategies include assisting with identifying and securing student's desired program plan, course enrollment through student services center, and offering assistance and resources to guarantee program completion.

10% - Collaborate and work with Academic Advisors and department management to identify and implement retention strategies and student success opportunities. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, education or directly related field, and one (1) year of experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, enrollment, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications

A. Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution

B. One (1) or more years of experience working in Advising/Enrollment Services or a student services position at a community college

C. Proficiency with Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite

D. Experience maintaining student records within a student database management system (i.e. Peoplesoft, Banner, Salesforce, etc.)

E. Experience presenting and delivering group presentations or orientations

F. Experience providing academic advisement virtually and in person (online, email, chat, or video conferencing)

Special Working Conditions

  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations

  • May require some evenings or weekends

  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

  • Must be in good standing and not be in default of a student loan, or in overpayment of student grant assistance

  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs

  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
