We are looking for a Superintendent - Contract Management to lead a team in a complex, technical, and large-scale mineral processing environment. The Superintendent - Contract Management is a member of the plant leadership team. You will be responsible for safe and efficient completion of tasks. You as the Superintendent are instrumental in ensuring the safety of our people, asset performance, risk reduction, continuously improving existing processes, managing budgets, and developing team capability.

Reporting to theManager - Maintenance and Servicesand working in a collaborative environment, you will be:

  • Ensure Rio Tinto contractor safety systems and programs are well established and support the highest standards of safety in the industry.
  • In partnership with the assigned designated manager and contractor representative, ensures all contractors have a written safety and health program that conforms to expectations and standards before the start of any on-site work and review ongoing compliance with that plan during the contract period.
  • Ensures all contractors have completed safety review meetings with their respective designated manager before performing work on the site and received a site-specific safety orientation coveringRio Tinto and MSHA part 48 safety & health standards relative to the work being performed.
  • Conducts frequent contractor jobsite inspections to recommend preventive safety measures, enhance safety programs and verify compliance to the expectations of the Health & Safety Improvement Action Plan while promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Participates in contractor accident and near-miss investigations to maintain an environment that supports the health and safety of workers.
  • While performing these job duties, employees must be capable to frequently stand, walk or sit; use ladders and stairs, and work in changing environments.

What you'll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor's degree desirable, though not required
  • Proven working experience in contractor management, leadership, and safety systems
  • Demonstrate a style of participative management in problem solving, project implementation, integration, and continuous improvement
  • Must possess good communication skills - written and oral, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to effectively interface with others
  • Experience in employee performance evaluation (setting expectations and evaluating delivery)
  • Proficient is use of SAP and Microsoft Office products
  • Assessing vendor safety performance by utilizing complex technical interfaces (ie BROWSE, Avetta, ERM)
