This position is responsible for following approved procedures, for the start-up, shutdown, normal operations, monitoring, servicing, and maintenance of Water Treatment equipment and chemical systems at a Combined Cycle Generating Facility.Must be familiar with emergency procedures to follow during periods of abnormal operation. Accountable for knowing and adhering to all location safety procedures including Lock Out Tag Out and personal protective equipment.Performs maintenance of plant water treatment equipment; troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates equipment. Position must monitor equipment performance through test, analysis, and report variances.Performs chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems, and maintains chemistry logs. Troubleshoots equipment/system problems and fix if possible. Originate work orders for those problems that cannot be resolved when found. Incumbents assist in the development of standard operational procedures and provide input to plant betterment items to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety. Ensures compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations and plant procedures. Regularly required to maintain plan security, operate heavy equipment such as manlifts and forklifts, and handle and transfer bulk chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Check and monitor plant chemistry and water treatment systems daily to ensure proper operation and detect problems as they occur. This includes checking oil levels, pressures, temperatures, flows, unusual noises, vibration, overheating, leaks, cleanliness, etc.

  • Responsible for startup, normal operation, and shutdown of water treatment Reverse Osmosis system.

  • Maintain site SDSs

  • Maintain various plant water permit compliance requirements.

  • Operate and maintain sample panel.

  • Understand equipment operating principles, operating parameters, interlocks, alarms, and how the equipment functions within its respective system.

  • Maintain site chemical inventory.

  • Perform bulk chemical offloads.

  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, greasing, changing filters, filtering oil, cleaning (e.g., nozzles, water boxes, strainers, etc.) adjusting packing, etc.

  • Understand the purpose and function of the water treatment equipment and water treatment systems in the plant.

  • Able to line up systems for various modes of operation (e.g., startup, shutdown, emergency, etc.)

  • Must be familiar with emergency procedures to follow during periods of abnormal operation.

  • Troubleshoot equipment/system problems and fix if possible. Originate work orders for those problems that cannot be resolved when found.

  • Inspect equipment and be able to identify problems.

  • Maintain accurate logs and records associated with the operation of plant water treatment systems, incident reports, shift logs, checklists, etc.

  • Must understand all plant water chemistry and perform all lab sampling and analysis.

  • Isolate and lock out/tag out equipment for maintenance.

  • Operate site powered industrial truck/forklift.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated basic computer skills utilizing windows applications, emails, and work management software.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to monitor and troubleshoot equipment in fluid system operation (pumps, valves, boilers, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience or training in computer-controlled equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience working with mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience or training in hazardous material spills, incipient fire response and first responder.

  • 5 or more years power plant experience as a chemical technician in a Combined Cycle Generating Station.

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. Including basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations. Experience with combustion turbines, HRSG's, steam turbines and combined cycle balance of plant equipment.

  • Rotating equipment, poor lighting, vibrations, extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes/gasses/chemicals, machine operation, vehicle operation,high noise levels, high voltage, prolonged standing, walking, kneeling, bending, climbing, lifting to knees-waist- shoulders - overhead, call outs,outage response.

  • Chemical handling.

  • System sampling of high-pressure high temperature systems.

  • Confined space entry.

Specific Requirements

  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations, and previous experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals and waste materials including knowledge of safe handling, and storage.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Successful completion of EEI's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and/or Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).

  • Experience or training in hazardous material spills and computer-controlled equipment.

  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
