Job Summary

JOB TITLE: Event Staff 1 or Event Staff 2

PROGRAM AREA: Adult Sports

STARTING HOURLY RATE: $15-17

JOB SUMMARY:

Event Staff personnel are responsible for performing the scanning and entry control operations at all Adult Sports events in order to provide a safe environment for teams, participants, and spectators. This is a part-time position with a pay rate of $15.00 and $17.00 with CPI training.

Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Assist the Adult Sports Building Director in supervising and monitoring operations by communicating with patrons, and remaining visible and approachable.
  • Set-up crowd control and safety equipment
  • Assist with spectator control and maintain order within the facility
  • Assist with providing general direction and instructions to spectators
  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules, and City of Milwaukee ordinances.
  • Effectively communicate with building monitors, building staff, engineers, officials, and patrons.
  • Other duties as assigned
Supervision Required

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

Reports to the Supervisor of Adult Sports, Citywide Programs

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs for this position.
  • Able to attend mandatory in-service meetings and trainings.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Properly attired with MPS part-time staff uniform
  • Possess effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to exercise conflict management skills and effectively communicate with patrons and staff.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Desire to learn new skills applicable to position.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
