Inside the Role

The performance operations technician is responsible for running multiple test cells at peak efficiency, and ensuring quality of data meets the expectations of the engineering customer. The duties of a performance operations technician may encompass a wide range of responsibilities related to the testing of medium and heavy-duty diesel engines. This includes the applicable setup of the engine, their components and exhaust after-treatment systems. These also includes engine mechanical assembly and disassembly setups, and any necessary fabrication work. Test cell problem identification and troubleshooting are included in the scope of responsibilities.

This position offers a starting salary range of $50,000 - $94,000

What you Drive at DTNA

  • Keep the test cells running at peak efficiency, and produce quality of data that meets the expectations of the engineering customer.
  • This includes the applicable setup of the engine, their components and exhaust after-treatment systems.
  • These also includes engine mechanical assembly and disassembly setups, and any necessary fabrication work.
  • Test cell problem identification and troubleshooting are included in the scope of responsibilities.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Effective organizational and follow-up skills
  • Ability to complete tasks autonomously, with little oversight or supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Strong Mechanical skills, and ability to work with hand tools
  • Strong computer skills (accessing/navigating service literature, work requests, MS365)
  • Strong interpersonal team skills and effective oral communication skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of principles or detailed operation of internal combustion engines
  • Ability to identify key items in electrical circuit diagram- measure(DMM) or calculate voltage, current, resistance
  • Familiarity with testing measurement instrumentation and sensors (emissions systems, thermocouples, transducers, accelerometers)
  • HV battery live work/repair experience
  • Experience with axle assembly/repair (backlash, endplay, pattern check, setting/verification etc)
  • Fabrication/ Welding experience (mig, tig,etc)
  • CDL "A" License Holder
  • NVH testing familiarity (use of chassis ears)
  • PID Loop Controller experience
  • Actively pursuing /enrolled in technical bachelors or associates degree program (NATEF or ABET accredited institute )
  • Engine and/or Chassis Dynamometer Testing Certificate

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Experience with alternative powertrain systems (Hybrid, BEV, fuel cell, eMotors, HV systems)
  • ASE or State Mechanic Certifications min. 1: (diesel, electrical, Hybrid, engine repair, transmission/driveline) or OEM service training equivalent in lieu of ASE/State
  • Actively pursuing /enrolled in technical bachelors or associates degree program (NATEF or ABET accredited institute )
  • Knowledge in engine testing, and mechanical engine assembly/disassembly
