Job Title: Research Services Professional - Open Rank: Entry to Senior

Job Summary:

Dr. Sandoval's research uses rodent models to study the role of the gut-brain-axis in regulation of metabolism in health, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. We use a combination of genetic, viral, surgical, and pharmacological studies to examine mechanisms and potential treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes. This position is integral to lab function as it involves breeding mice for all research studies in the lab. You will work with a diverse group of individuals to carry some of these key responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and develop rodent surgeries, such as but not limited to, bariatric surgery, catheter implantation, brain stereotaxic surgeries, etc.
  • Develop and maintain surgical standard operating protocols for quality and efficiency. Perform in vivo experiments to measure body weight, food intake, and glucose homeostasis.
  • Perform routine procedures, such as health monitoring, blood collection, drug administration, and necropsy.
  • Work with the team to conduct animal studies including study preparation, data collection, and analysis
  • Help with laboratory maintenance including organization and maintaining safety protocols (IACUC, IBC, radiation)

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) year clinical research or related experience

Senior Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years clinical research or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Entry Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field
  • Clinical research or related experience
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
  • Experience in mouse and laboratory research.

Intermediate Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field
  • Two (2) years of clinical research or related experience
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
  • Experience in mouse and laboratory research.

Senior Professional:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field
  • Three (3) years of clinical research or related experience
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems)
  • Experience in mouse and laboratory research.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Mouse surgical training and experience
  • Basic knowledge regarding laboratory research
  • Mouse surgical experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience leading or working within teams to conduct experiments.
  • Experience developing laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Mouse surgical and basic handling training and experience.
  • Ability to perform basic mouse phenotyping experiments.
  • One year of research experience.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring range for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $47,743 - $60,729

Intermediate Level: $51,956 - $66,088

Senior Level: $56,169 - $71,447

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
