Position description

The Department of Sociology [https://sociology.ucsd.edu/] invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin July 1, 2025, in the area of global sociology. We are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and welcome applicants who focus on global issues, institutions, or organizations; on cross-national comparison; on countries other than the United States; or on issues that have transnational implications (e.g., climate change, immigration, human rights).

Applicants will be expected to teach courses and mentor at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. We invite applicants of a wide variety of theoretical and methodological approaches to join our ranks with an innovative research program and commitment to outstanding teaching. Applicants must have strong research accomplishments and have experience or a willingness to participate in teaching, mentoring, research or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants at the assistant level and holds a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field, or who is ABD, pursuing a Ph.D.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

A completed Ph.D. by the position start date, in Sociology or a related field.
