GSS Business Function Overview:

Global Specialty Solutions (GSS) is a business unit that sits within the broader FMC Corporation. GSS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the role of Formulation Scientist. The Formulation Scientist reports into the Associate Director of Product Development and will be responsible for developing novel formulations and delivery systems to support new product introductions specifically for GSS customers serving the turfgrass, ornamental, and structural pest management industries.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, implement, consult on, support, and execute research programs to advance innovative formulations and delivery systems. Primary focus is on water based systems, including, but not limited to: Suspension Concentrates (SC), Suspoemulsions (SE), Oil-in-Water emulsions (EW) and capsule suspension (CS) systems. Other formulation types for formulation development activities include gels, WP and both water soluble and water dispersible granules.
  • Facilitate open and candid scientific discussion within the global formulations teams. Assist team members with project planning and in interpreting scientific data.
  • Identify opportunities for application of novel technologies to product development. Recommend new technologies to GSS.
  • Align with all global and corporate safety plans and policies and participate in the development of new plans and policies. Maintain and support all safety, health, security, and environmental programs. Ensure regulatory compliance in our operations.
  • Facilitate open and candid discussions with the GSS business groups with respect to formulation activities, scale-up, and plant scale activities. Aid, as needed, in the commercialization of products for global sales.
  • Support commercialization activities including navigating and documenting into the PLM and the QAR system. Aid in the acceptance and use of alternate materials into the formulation systems for plants and for research.
  • Support on-going GLP programs by being a study director, as needed, and supporting the GLP coordinator as a back-up, as needed. Formulate products for global acceptance into all the regulated systems.
  • Act as a mentor to junior scientists to aid their ability to formulate agrochemical products in both GSS and global crop groups.

Required Education & Certifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Engineering, or related science with at least 5 years of industry experience
  • MS in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Engineering, or related science with at least 10 years of industry experience

Qualifications:

  • Background in developing robust formulations and formulation processes of various types (e.g., pan or fluid bed granulation, extrusion, powder, spray drying, solutions, emulsifiables, suspensions, packaging).
  • Knowledge essential in applying core formulation-related technologies (e.g., rheology, particle technology, comminution, disperse-phase, blend technology, interfacial chemistry, industrial use of surfactants, polymers and solvents) to research problems
  • Experience in delivering high quality, high volume and on-time results including overcoming technical and organizational hurdles.
  • Ability to work in a team environment where cooperating and sharing ideas are valued.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships in a project team environment and communicate technical and non-technical information effectively with global internal and external partners.
  • Experience in effectively integrating and managing multiple programs and leading cross-functional and/or cross business teams in accordance with project management principles.
  • Skillset in thoroughly documenting and organizing all relevant results and related information in detailed reports and regulatory documents.
  • Proven track record as a technical expert for the business for key and/or multiple technologies.
  • Experience in generating and implementing novel programs that add significant business value.
  • Background in driving and implementing change in a positive manner to make improvements that impact the competency and/or business.
  • Experience in developing, coaching, and encouraging leadership in others.
