Summary
The Lead Academic Success Coach will promote continued student engagement in The Excel Center. He/she will train, manage, and evaluate a team of four Academic Success Coaches. Through problem-solving sessions, the Lead Academic Success Coach will facilitate the Academic Success Coaching Team developing strategies for their students to overcome barriers and continue their educational progress. Additional responsibilities include training new coaches, caseload distribution, conducting informal and formal evaluations, and participating on the leadership team. The position will work collaboratively with the instructional team to reduce educational and personal barriers in effort to meet educational objectives in alignment with SC Academic Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Palmetto Goodwill's Amazing Customer Experience (ACE) Culture, I-CARE Values, Mission and Vision in all actions.
  • Serve on the leadership team. Act as liaison between admin and coaches.
  • Participate in the academic success coach interview process.
  • Make informal and formal observations of coaching sessions with routine evaluation feedback cycles.
  • Supervise academic coaches through review of case notes, attendance data, retention data, one-on-ones, and feedback meetings.
  • Lead by example with a limited-sized caseload of students.
  • Develop creative strategies for addressing student barriers.
  • Address complaints between students and coaches.
  • Lead student/staff or student/student mediation meetings.
  • Facilitate Academic Success Coach Team meetings.
  • Report updates from the Academic Success Coach Team at weekly Leadership Team meetings
  • Monitor, track, and present academic success coach data.
  • Plan and conduct academic success coach professional developments.
  • Lead the intake process to introduce students to the school and begin outlining their educational goals and individual learning plans based on intake assessments.
  • Promote open communication and collaboration between academic success coaches and instructors on student academic success plans.
  • Manage and monitor students' learning experiences to ensure student engagement and accomplishment of learning goals through individual and/or group meetings.
  • Identify and connect students to community resources to remove barriers and support academic and/or personal goals.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with key community partners (community agencies, educational institutions, and employers) to enhance the menu of support services provided to students.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to provide wrap-around support to students, as deemed necessary.
  • Assist with new student orientation.
  • Collaborate with the recruitment and enrollment team around student outreach and communication.
  • Lead the Reengagement Team
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to gather and analyze data for informed decision making.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Office 365: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and the Internet
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships at all levels and relate to a diverse population.
  • Requires occasional local travel/transporting individuals, valid driver's license, up-to-date auto insurance, and safe driving record.
  • Awareness of community resources
  • Ability to embrace change positively, strong planning and organizing skills, independent, self-manager.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years' experience in mentoring, counseling, advising, or related field.
  • Experience working with high school-age students in a nontraditional setting and/or in an adult education setting is highly preferred.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The work is normally performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
