SCOPE OF POSITION: Worship Leader: Organize, rehearse groups, lead music programs, and prepare visuals for Sunday Morning meetings, weekday programs and other events as directed.

Ministry Partner: Assist with preparing, planning, and implementing Corps religious programming (men/women/youth), outreach initiatives, special events, and volunteer experiences. This will include preaching and teaching in public worship services, care and counsel to the congregation, and developing all aspects of church ministry.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a uniformed Salvationist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrate Christian faith, discipleship, and biblical principles in visible, fruitful ways.
  • Must be a person of good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability with musical performance and music teaching.
  • Ability to work as part of a team ministry with youth and adults.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute music and Corps programs.
  • Ability to operate a telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and CCLI.
  • Working knowledge of TSA database applications; CMS, VMS, and AP workflow.
  • Ability to use new software programs with basic training.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate well in the English language.
  • Respect for personal property, The Salvation Army equipment, and facilities.
  • Demonstrate and enforce adherence to Salvation Army policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Music:

  • Lead all music aspects of worship within the Corps setting including Sunday morning and other services as directed by the Corps Officers.
  • Recruit, teach, train, and rehearse musicians for participation in corporate worship.
  • Lead weekly music rehearsals preparing the team(s) with 1) religious instruction, 2) preparation for Sunday worship, and 3) cultivating community among team members.
  • Effectively incorporate both traditional and contemporary music within the corporate worship time.
  • Provide leadership and supervisory direction for all the various worship elements which church volunteers participate in, including bands, choir, special music, audio visual, and online streaming.
  • Work with the corps officers to plan, implement, and create a holistic musical environment which enhances the spiritual worship experience.
  • Set up and support all audio-visual functions of the corps.
  • Work with the Corps Officers to develop modern, relevant, and inspiring visual mediums.
  • Weekly meet with the Corps Officers to develop an inspiring and meaningful worship experience for congregation members each Sunday.
  • Assist in the development, training and staffing of an audio-visual team.
  • Schedule volunteers for the worship service and special events.
  • Work to create flawless execution of events within your sphere of influence. Address audio-visual malfunctions as they arrive and provide recommendations on opportunities for growth and greater excellence.
  • Oversee all music education initiatives of the corps, including music lessons, music camps, and nurturing talent across multiple age groups.
  • Cultivate and grow current and future leaders for all worship ministries.
  • Make recommendations to the corps officer regarding purchase of all needed music, musical equipment, and supplies.
  • Provide music for fundraising activities such as Christmas and Salvation Army Week.

Ministry:

  • Plan, implement and lead biblical education groups (bible studies) as directed by the corps officer.
  • In the absence of the corps officer, preach on Sundays as scheduled.
  • Work with the Corps officers to evaluate corps needs and create short, medium and long-range plans for corps programing.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of activities (internal and external) to build a stable and growing church congregation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of spiritual growth activities to build and strengthen the church congregation.
  • Assist Corps Officers on planning, implementing and leading outreach opportunities for all ages.
  • With the assistance of the corps officer, create monthly, quarterly, and yearly church calendars.
  • Assist the corps officer by generating program ideas for youth and young adult engagement for individual, cohort and corporate spiritual development.
  • Prepare, plan and lead the young adult spiritual development functions of the Corps.
  • Assist in the leadership of Salvation Army youth activities alongside the Corps Officers.
  • As a ministry partner with the Corps Officers, you will assist in all aspects of social and spiritual ministry within the Corps as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all church members, staff, and volunteers.
  • As directed, assist with divisional events and programs.
  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. You will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by overall business needs of the organization. These duties may be assigned by the corps officer.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike and twist on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes or prolonged periods at a time.
      • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
      • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
      • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
      • Working in a distinctively Christian environment
      • Limited seasonal travel may be required. Summer Camps, divisional events, staff training.

      MISCELLANEOUS:

      • The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
      • The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
