HDR is seeking a qualified, motivated Architectural History Technician to support field projects and desktop reviews for projects throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, and to support HDR projects throughout the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

• In the role of Architectural History Technician (Cultural Resources Specialist 1), you will be asked to:
• Conduct research and architectural surveys.
• Develop historic contexts.
• Make National Register of Historic Places eligibility evaluations.
• Assess project effects, report writing, and assisting clients in complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
• You may also be asked to conduct archaeological surveys under the direction of a supervising Field Director, where you may be responsible for completing archaeological site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; excavating shovel test pits (STPs); completing site descriptions; taking photographs; and mapping.
• Conduct fieldwork, including reconnaissance and intensive-level survey, to identify historic properties for a variety of clients, including transportation, renewable energy/power, and federal agencies.
• Conduct research and develop historic contexts and other written deliverables.
• Complete survey forms, determinations of eligibility, and reports that meet the requirements of the appropriate State Historic Preservation Office, regulatory agencies, and our clients.
• Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and understand the scope of the work being requested.
• Work independently on small projects, or assist other staff on larger projects.
• Be able to walk up to 6 miles a day.
• Be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance .
• Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts .
• Have (or be able to obtain) a valid Texas Driver's License .
• Be able to operate a vehicle day or night.
• Travel to project locations, predominantly in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, although additional nationwide travel may be requested as needed.
• Work predominantly at an HDR office when not participating in fieldwork.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field
• Self-motivation, with proven writing and oral communication skills
• Willingness to travel and work under varied weather conditions, remotely, and within natural environments
• Willingness to work in a team environment
• Familiarity with the regulatory framework surrounding cultural resource management (i.e., Section 106 and NEPA)
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office products)
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Preferred qualifications:

• Previous work experience in Section 106 NHPA compliance
• Secretary of the Interior-qualified for Architectural History or History
• Master's degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field, or successful completion of a Historic Preservation certificate program
