Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Technical Writer, we'll count on you to:

  • Develop client-focused Resumes and Project Writeups for our military and other federal clients, often in a fast-paced environment.
  • Conduct interviews/research and gather data to support the development of accurate and up-to-date content.
  • Prepare policy and procedure documentation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise language that is easily understandable by various stakeholders.
  • Conduct varying levels of editorial review (from light proofreading to in-depth review and revision) of a wide variety of architectural-engineering documents, including, but not limited to, studies, assessments, meeting minutes, PowerPoint presentations, marketing materials, etc. These documents can range from 20 to 400+ pages in length and include technical narrative, tabular data, maps, and plans. They often undergo several drafts.
  • Be familiar with and able to integrate grammar and writing style rules from varying style guides, including the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, Handbook of Technical Writing, and International System of Units.
  • Able to assist with light formatting using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe InDesign.
  • Assist QC/Editing team with establishing and disseminating grammar and style standards to the general staff.

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, journalism, engineering or architecture
  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in Technical Writing, preferably in the A/E industry.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise language.
  • Strong research skills in gathering information from various sources and subject matter experts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to deal effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail- and deadline-oriented. Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Proven ability to develop compelling stories that strengthen messaging and engagement strategies for a program, initiative, or project.
  • Experience collaborating with client managers, marketing staff & graphic designers to ensure cohesive messages and user experience.
  • Experience writing for multiple mediums, including print and audio/video.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Service and client-oriented personality with the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and set and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter; can work well independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands for your time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
