Position Purpose
The Director of Faculty Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion will serve as the liaison to the Provost Office, Arts & Sciences, and the professional schools (Geisel, Thayer and Tuck) on behalf of Institutional Diversity and Equity on matters related to faculty recruitment and retention - particularly those from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds. This position will collaborate closely with the Office of the Provost to review all faculty searches and coordinate institution wide faculty search training and mentorship opportunities for faculty at all levels. In addition, this role will consult on institutional policies and processes related to faculty development with a lens of inclusion and equity.

Description
Dartmouth seeks an experienced leader to promote equitable faculty recruitment, retention and development as Director of Inclusive Faculty Affairs. Reporting to the Senior Diversity Officer, you will partner with the Provost's Office and academic deans on strategic efforts to advance faculty diversity, equity, and inclusion. Key responsibilities include co-leading hiring committee trainings and equitably reviewing faculty searches; building mentoring and community-building programs for underrepresented faculty; tracking and analyzing data on recruitment, retention, and promotion; and consulting on policies/initiatives for inclusive faculty development. The ideal candidate has 5+ years developing and supporting faculty DEI initiatives and project management experience in higher education.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • 5-7 years of experience in project planning, management and community building
  • Demonstrated experience with developing, implementing and assessing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in partnership with faculty and staff partners
  • Ability to work with deans and provostial administrators in navigating faculty matters; ability to command respect of the faculty
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures and systems within higher education
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive, confidential data and information
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and collaborate with groups and organizations representing diverse constituencies from federally protected classes
  • Experience gathering data to inform practice
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills as well as proficiency in written communication with the ability to effectively convey complex information to a wide array of audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and meet deadlines while working in a rapidly changing complex organization
  • Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Strong integrity, flexibility, and ability to adapt

  • 8+ years of experience leading institutional initiatives in a higher-education setting

Key Accountabilities

Description
Faculty Recruitment and Retention: Works closely with the Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs to inform efforts to promote diversity and inclusion of the faculty, including developing processes to oversee targeted efforts to diversify Dartmouth's faculty, and co-leading the creation of programs and initiatives that advance the institution's diversity goals. The Director will co-lead search committee trainings for all faculty searches and will review all faculty searches in Arts & Sciences, the Geisel School of Medicine, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Tuck School of Business at each decision point to ensure equitable processes and that the institution is meeting diversity recruitment goals. This position will also work with the Provost Office to track institutional data for faculty recruitment, retention and promotion with an emphasis on underrepresented groups.

Description
Faculty Programs and Initiatives: In collaboration with academic diversity deans, the Director will develop a suite of programs and initiatives to support faculty from underrepresented groups at all levels and across the entire institution. These programs will provide structured mentoring opportunities, preparation for the tenure and promotion process, as well as community building events with the SVP/SDO for faculty from underrepresented/marginalized groups (Faculty of Color, Women in STEM, LGBTQ, etc.). Be familiar with and encourage faculty engagement in national programs available to underrepresented groups. Participant in Ivy+ and other professional development spaces that promote faculty diversity

Description
Faculty Relations and Conflict Management: As appropriate, the Director partners with deans, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Human Resources to facilitate positive outcomes for faculty-faculty and faculty-staff employee relations issues.
