Must start employment by July 31st and work through the Summer Season (End of August 2024) to receive full bonus.

Washington County Parks is currently hiring Lifeguards. This is a semi-skilled position under supervision, responsible for controlling the swimming area to prevent accidents, assisting swimmers, enforcement of designated water, beach, park rules and regulations, and promotion of park use and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must obtain a current Lifeguard Training Certificate, current CPR certification, AND First Aid certification prior to hire date (Employees will be eligible for full reimbursement for lifeguard training)
  • Must have own means of transportation
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Possess current certifications for Lifeguards, CPR and First Aid issued by the American Red Cross
  • Previous work experience with Washington County Parks
  • Previous experience as a lifeguard
  • Previous work experience at a beach

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

HOURS / DAYS: Varies; 24-40 hours/week. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

ANTICIPATED RATE OF PAY: $16.51 Hourly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years of age and must have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions. Candidates must obtain a current Lifeguard Training Certificate, current CPR certification, and First Aid certification prior to hire date. Employees will be eligible for full reimbursement for lifeguard training. Must have own means of transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Have required certifications issued by the American Red Cross.

Offers of employment will be contingent upon successfully passing a criminal history background check prior to beginning employment with Washington County.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet park visitors and provide information on park facilities;
  • Enforce Washington County Parks Division rules and regulations;
  • Perform general lifeguard duties, rescue swimmers and administer first aid;
  • Operate and maintain safety equipment;
  • Complete minor first aid and personal injury reports, daily swim area report, and other reports as assigned;
  • Participate in any training and conditioning programs deemed necessary by the lead worker and/or supervisor;
  • Provide proper first aid care in handling injured persons;
  • Oversee activities within the beach, bathhouse and surrounding areas;
  • Keep the beach, restrooms and picnic areas neat and litter free.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed outside involving exposure to seasonal elements including heat, wind, humidity, sand, rain and cold water. During rescue efforts and while administering first aid, exposure may include, but not limited to, bodily fluids and communicable disease. Duties include seeing, hearing, talking, walking, running, swimming and physical exertion associated with life-saving techniques. May require lifting and grappling with or subduing persons in the course of life saving procedures. Equipment used may include but is not limited to: rescue tube, first aid supplies, rescue board, public address system, and megaphone. Additional physical/mental requirements may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.
