Purpose of the Job:

is responsible for the development and implementation of organizational strategies and standards that lead to best-in-class performance results including safety, productivity and quality. The Operations Leader collaborates with other leadership throughout the plant and is an active member of the plant's Natural Leadership Team (NLT).

Jackson is Owen's Corning's benchmark North American glass manufacturing facility; the two-furnace operation competitively manufactures wet use chop strand (WUCS) and gypsum. Jackson's primary customers are Owens Corning building materials (Roofing) and GAF. This position has 6 salaried direct reports and ~180 indirect reports. The plant has 228 employees.

Reports to: Plant Leader, Jackson Plant

Span of control: (1) Logistics Supervisor, (1) AM Coordinator, (4) Front Line Leaders

Responsibilities:

Lead safety and security for an injury free work environment

  • Ensures a culture which enables a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Shows passion and care for our people and leads from a place of "safety and" the other objectives of the business with a focus on safe behaviors and choices.
  • Ensures that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines ensure the safety of employees.
  • Ensures a clear and effective measurement system is followed and used to drive results; rewards and celebrates safe behavior and achievements; ensures accountability.
  • Allocated resources and identifies investments required to achieve zero injuries, including systems, focused programs and leadership

Support the facility through a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating system targeting:

  • Zero injuries
  • Zero defects
  • Zero losses

Know the business and our customers

  • Continuously builds insight into the business market, Customer base and strategies
  • Fosters a culture where all employees are engaged, empowered and focused on Customer outcomes
  • Develops relationships with Customers needs to ensure OC delivers the highest quality products in the market.

Operational Excellence

  • Leads with a clear view of where the organization needs to be in 1-3 years
  • Communicates strategic direction to employees and how it fits with the day-to-day actions and results being driven. Ability to achieve results by inspiring the team. Effective utilization of 2-way communication tools to share strategy and target objectives.
  • Control operational costs through efficient utilization of labor, parts, and equipment.
  • Sets clear and measurable performance expectations, in line with division and corporate goals; proactively analyzes and manages all relative operations performance metrics to establish the Amarillo facility as the flagship operation in the Americas
  • Oversees the development of a comprehensive annual capital budget and operations plan; initiates timely and appropriate capital requests to maintain or enhance plant performance necessary to meet customer demands
  • Operates with zero environmental non-conformities to applicable company, government and regulatory policies
  • Continuously improves the plant operations environmental footprint consistent with company goals and community interests
  • Ensures appropriate resources to business strategy and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated change agent who can lead strategic transformation.
  • Design and communicate clear and measurable performance expectations, complete OTL performance reviews, and execute OTL growth, development, and engagement plans.
  • Provide support to PTL's and all employees, as needed.
  • Function as a member of the plant's leadership team - NLT
  • Prepare budgets around labor, capital, production, and facility improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and solicit input from team members to drive successful execution of facility and team goals and enhanced team member engagement / job satisfaction.
  • Align Critical Outcomes for the team, plant, and business to individual performance expectations and accountabilities.
  • Coaching, counseling, and training all employees on plant initiatives and performance expectations

Lead and Develop Talent

  • Foster an inclusive environment where talent is developed, and full potential is realized.
  • Ensure a positive, creative, diverse, and collaborative work environment where employees own the success of the business.
  • Actively participate in talent reviews as well as invest in the growth and development of self and others to achieve sustained success.
  • Ensure alignment with functional leadership on performance management and talent development
  • Assist the Plant Leader with other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master's Degree preferred, Bachelor's Degree required with preference on Engineering, Business, other related majors will be considered

Experience:

  • At least 7-10 years of progressive technical experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to cross-functional team leadership or participation outside of manufacturing
  • A history of hiring, growing, and promoting talent within the organization
  • Demonstrated experience of extraordinary operational performance improvement

Type of Industry:

  • TPM formal training, or strong background in Continuous Improvement, and Lean manufacturing experience
  • Experience meeting customer demands.
  • Continuous Process, chemical, aluminum, steel, automotive

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Continuously builds an intimate insight and knowledge of technical processes, production lines and their products.
  • Utilize data and data collection systems, and Six Sigma methods for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses
  • Create and implement strategic and operations plans.
  • Accomplish the goals of the business; translates strategies into actionable operating plans; sets goals for personal accomplishment; uses measurement methods to monitor progress; quickly overcomes barriers and adapts plans to ensure goal attainment.
  • Understand that all business opportunities start with knowledge of how to create value for customer.
  • Able to achieve results fast both individually and through teams.
  • Customer orientation: Has an external perspective and understands that all business opportunities start with knowledge of how to serve our customers.

Travel

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
