Position Summary |
The University of New Mexico, Department of Emergency
Medicine, is seeking a Lead Medical Scribe who enjoys multi-tasking in a
fast-paced, high-stress clinical environment. This position will serve as a
scribe for a minimum of two shifts while also overseeing other scribes; audit
provider charts for accuracy and completeness and offer feedback to improve
documentation; provide technical assistance and troubleshooting issues; serve
as a liaison between the administrative team and scribes; design, coordinate,
and conduct trainings and re-trainings; assist with scheduling and call-ins;
and remain up-to-date on EMR procedures, trainings, policies, and compliance.
The Department of Emergency Medicine utilizes a Vertical Care Model in which
Emergency Department providers see patients in a triage area for evaluation;
place orders for medications, lab work, imaging, and EKG; and determine if a
patient can be seen in a low-acuity treatment area or needs to be assigned to a
bed for additional care. The Emergency Department Resuscitation Unit is a
highly-specialized program of care for serious injury or illness in the only
Level 1 trauma center in New Mexico.
The Department of Emergency Medicine staff and faculty
innovate to solve problems, are dedicated to serving others, and aspire to
lead. It houses several programs including residency, fellowships, and
post-graduate training; Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Academy; Pediatric
Emergency Medicine; International Mountain Medicine Center; Center for Rural
and Tribal EMS; and medical research.

Conditions of Employment |
- Must successfully complete all required training within 6 months of hire.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications |
High School diploma or GED - min of 1-year experience directly related experience. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous scribing experience in hospital setting
- Type 55 WPM
- Leadership or management experience
- Knowledge of billing and coding procedures
- Ability to multitask
