The Tax Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns, providing guidance and direction on tax compliance and planning, and performing tax research and analysis as needed.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Oversee and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise, sales & use tax, and VAT returns.
  • Ensures all compliance requirements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist and mentor entry-level accountants in tax law research and applicability.
  • Assist with the implementation of process improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of tax staff.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies.
  • Provide guidance on complex tax matters and advise management on tax implications of decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Analyze financial data to identify and address tax-related issues.
  • Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess potential implications.
  • Prepare and review estimated tax payments and extensions.
  • Represent the organization in tax audits and hearings for motor fuel and sales tax.
  • Research tax-related inquiries and resolve issues in a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in accounting or finance.
  • Effective team member with the ability to work with internal and external business partners and taxing authorities.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Five years of Fuel Excise tax experience or more preferred.
  • Five years of Sales and Use Tax and/or VAT reporting required.
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel via lookups, pivots, and formulas.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking to interpret motor fuel tax law and explain proper scenarios to states and or jurisdictions.
  • Works well under filing deadlines while meeting all assignments.
  • Adaptable to growth and changing business environment.
