The Opportunity:
As a software sustainment engineer, you play a pivotal role in an application's functional life. From troubleshooting to fixing bugs, you use your operations and maintenance skills to ensure that things run smoothly. We're looking for a software sustainment engineer like you to apply your knowledge to our government clients' challenges and their legacy enterprise systems.


As a software sustainment engineer at Booz Allen, you'll have an operational impact from day one. Supporting a team of professionals, you'll maintain applications and keep systems working. You'll use programming and scripting languages as you continuously enhance and maintain the applications, troubleshoot any issues that arise operationally, and upgrade the systems to meet security requirements. Most importantly, you'll strengthen your skills as you advise our government clients on the best ways to improve and modernize the existing systems. Work with us to help us secure crucial systems while watching them grow and modernize. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience maintaining and making minor changes to existing applications or keeping those systems working in a sustainment mode

  • 3+ years of experience with Appian platform application development, operations, and maintenance

  • Experience with basic programming languages, technologies, tools, or web development stacks

  • Experience in writing SQL scripts for data fixes and performing system enhancements while maintaining adherence to established design patterns

  • Experience with designing and debugging applications

  • Experience in implementing business functionality, leveraging expertise in relational database design

  • Experience in monitoring and optimizing Appian applications using Appian's built in tools, such as analyzing logs and health checks

  • Ability to perform impact analysis for Appian upgrades and integrate applications with external systems via APIs and dashboards

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

  • Experience with Microsoft Products, including SharePoint

  • Experience working in a microservices or distributed application environment

  • Knowledge of source control systems, such as GIT

  • Knowledge of relational and hierarchal data structures and functional programming

  • Ability to work in an Agile environment

  • Ability to work independently

  • Possession of strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Appian Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $60,400.00 to $137,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
