Job Description

Our Chemistry Tutors (Science Learning Center) will provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab material in chemistry courses, as well as help with study methods, or technology needed to complete course related material. Tutors may also assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services.

Location of Work: Tutoring will take place primarily in person at either the main campus (North Canton), there is a potential of working in Akron, as needed (substitute tutoring).

Hourly Pay Range: $14.81/hour to $19.99/hour

Typical Hours of Work: Flexible during outlined times for the Science Learning Center (SLC).
SLC is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm.

Are you passionate about chemistry and eager to support students in their academic journey? In this role, you will empower students to excel in their coursework by providing personalized support and guidance in general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and lab report writing.

Typical duties include:
  • Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions on a range of topics for general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and lab report writing courses.
  • Assist students in mastering complex chemical concepts and reactions in general chemistry, guide them through organic chemistry mechanisms, support understanding of biochemical pathways and molecular interactions in biochemistry, and provide specialized assistance in lab report writing for organic chemistry and general chemistry courses.
  • Guide experimental design, data analysis, scientific writing skills, and the interpretation of laboratory results.
  • Utilize engaging and interactive methods to enhance student understanding and retention of course material.
  • Collaborate with faculty and fellow Learning Coaches to develop tailored resources and workshops to support student learning.
To be considered you'll need:
A Bachelor's degree in chemistry or closely related field with course(s) in general chemistry and organic chemistry is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous tutoring experience is desired but not required.
  • Comfortable with both in-person and online instruction platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
