Salary Range: Up to $87,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Function: To oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions of sponsored funds.

Scope: Responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare various financial reports. Ensures that internal controls and reporting structures are adhered to. Responsible for cash management for sponsored funding. Responsible for specific accounting and financial reporting duties related to sponsored funding. Responsible for coordination and troubleshooting of issues between the Vice President of Research Offices and Financial Affairs, including transactional issues and UTShare issues and testing.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Reviews/approves journal entries, cost transfers, and accounting documents prepared by support staff.
  2. Prepares/reviews financial reports to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including the SEFA, Sources & Uses, and THECB Research Report.
  3. Prepares/reviews Line of Credit drawdowns and subsequent receipt of funds.
  4. Reviews new award documentation to establish accounting function. Sets up necessary chart field components in the UTShare PeopleSoft system.
  5. Institutional Service Center oversight, including audits, performance, rate reviews, budget preparation, and overall monitoring.
  6. Responsible for preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Award and related Annual Financial Report schedules and notes.
  7. Collaborates with Student Financial Aid for the SFA portion of the A133 audit.
  8. Responsible for coordination and problem resolution for issues affecting VPR grant administration and Financial Affairs offices.
  9. Supervises, coaches and trains Accountant(s) in reporting area. Evaluates staff performance. Monitors workflow to make changes in job duties as needed to meet the various deadlines.
  10. Assists with the updating or development of any relevant Fiscal Management Operations Guides or website information.
  11. Supports other institutional goals and projects as assigned by Financial Affairs leadership.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Periodic:
  1. Preparation of the Facilities and Administration Rate Proposal and DS2, in applicable years.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from an accredited institution with a Major/concentration in accounting.
  • Five (5) years of experience in accounting.
  • Experience with an ERP system in a complex financial environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial management, and internal controls.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education accounting.
  • Experience in GASB.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in grant administration accounting.

Working Conditions

Working Environment:
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position primarily works remotely in Texas but may work on campus on an infrequent basis (approximately four days or less per month). When an employee is required to work on campus, travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
