Job Summary

Darling is seeking a Tax Manager to join the corporate Tax Department at its world headquarters. This critical department provides tax compliance, accounting guidance and strategic tax planning for all businesses. The Tax Manager will focus on domestic (federal and state) income tax matters and will work closely with a team of dedicated tax professionals.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparation/review of the consolidated US federal income tax return and US federal proforma income tax returns.
  • Prepares/reviews state and local income and franchise tax returns.
  • Prepares/reviews estimated federal, state and local tax payments/vouchers, return extensions and additional tax compliance filings.
  • Prepares/reviews annual tax package requests.
  • Prepares/reviews state and local apportionment and related analysis.
  • Responds to state tax notices.
  • Assists with state tax audits.
  • Assists with the quarterly and year-end income tax provision.
  • Performs difficult research assignments and participates in special tax projects.
  • Updates and reviews the Company's "Tax Calendar" to ensure timely filing of all items.
  • Keeps abreast of current tax laws, regulations and practices.
  • Assists with ongoing process improvement initiatives.
  • Performs ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Ensures the team meets internal and external deadlines.
  • Mentors and develops team members providing guidance and training.
  • Updates, maintains and creates Microsoft Excel files with advanced level functions/formulas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with CPA (active license) or Master's degree in taxation.
  • Five years business income tax experience, must include:
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local income tax laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in ERP and financial accounting systems.
  • Working knowledge in OneSource or similar income tax preparation software.
  • Software experience with Alteryx and BNA Fixed Assets.
  • Proven ability to implement various tax initiatives.
  • Energetic and high sense of urgency while working on projects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment demonstrating strong judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills while maintaining attention to details.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, bend, and kneel
  • Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs.
  • Long periods spent sitting at desk in front of computer screen.
  • Regularly required reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job functions will be carried out in an office environment. Domestic and International travel will be required periodically.
