Position Summary | The AHMED lab is looking to hire a postdoctoral research associate. Our lab studies topics related to telomeres, epigenetic inheritance, longevity and cellular immortality using the nematode C. elegans. We use genetics, genomics, microscopy and biochemistry to address these problems. Human telomeres shorten in response to psychosocial stress, but how human telomere length is epigenetically regulated by or interacts with environmental stress is not understood. We are interested in studying dipeptide proteins are created from (TTAGGC)n telomere repeats present in TERRA, an RNA transcribed from telomeres, studying unexpected mutations present in nematode and human telomeres that may be under positive selection in wild nematodes. We are interested in studying a C. elegans telomere binding protein that is a major longevity transcription factor and in understanding the significance of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance of high or low levels of single-stranded telomere binding proteins at telomeres. We are interested in characterizing a long non-coding RNA that regulates longevity pathways. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join us to studying the interplay between telomere biology, stress response, and epigenetic inheritance. The postdoctoral fellow will also be expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students, attend conferences and present their work, and interact with other members of the telomere, aging and human genetics fields. Dr. Ahmed encourages trainees to develop into creative, independent individuals who shape scientific fields by changing the way people think. |
