Position Announcement

Performs journeyman or master electrician level electrical work involving installation, alteration, maintenance, new construction, inspection and repair of electrical distribution systems (including primary and secondary wiring). Performs electrical work on campus appliances and mechanical equipment. Additional information about the department can be found online at .

Responsibilities

  • Installs new systems and repairs existing wiring systems, electrical conduit, communications systems, control systems and related University-owned equipment according to required NEC, NFPA, OSHA and University safety rules.
  • Applies electrical knowledge and manual skill in inspecting, maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, safety testing and repairing motors, generators, chargers, mechanical equipment and a variety of clinical or laboratory equipment. Maintains these electrical devices by repairing or replacing items such as hardware, lamps, fuses, sockets, ballasts, as a matter of preventative maintenance and safety considerations.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to campus transformers and high voltage electrical systems under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Provides technical knowledge, guidance and assistance in development of construction documents and plans for electrical projects. Attends project meetings as needed. Inspects electrical work performed by outside contractors to insure compliance with project specifications and code requirements.
  • Assists with fire alarm inspections of all campus buildings.
  • Occasionally required to perform work not related to specific trade such as maintaining mechanical and electrical rooms, taking meter readings, monitoring computer control systems, and troubleshooting equipment.

Qualifications

  • Utah Commercial Journeyman's Electrical License required.
  • Four years of journeyman experience preferred.
  • Current knowledge and skill in electrical construction practices and related codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret general facilities' plans and specifications including electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment commonly used by electricians. Knowledge in the operation of a boom or bucket truck, forklift, backhoe, man lift or other equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, physical exam and drug testing required.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time classified staff (overtime-eligible) position. Annual salary of $65,000 depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of June 2024.
