The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Fellow in the general area of Materials Science & Engineering, with the research area focuses on solid oxide fuel cells/electrolysis cells and related electrochemical materials & devices. The initial appointment is one year with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: planning and conducting laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of solid oxide fuel cells/electrolysis cells, processes and techniques used in in situ monitoring high-temperature electrochemical kinetics, and developing related models; attending research conferences and reading scientific literature to keep abreast of technological advances and current research findings; identifying and assisting with acquisition of funding from public, private, and governmental sources; searching scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for research goals; performing laboratory experiment activities according to protocol; overseeing research facilities and personnel; writing and presenting research/study status reports for review and use of the principal investigator; and preparing the results of experimental and model findings for presentation to colleagues and the sponsor.

The Statler College has seven academic departments, with about $42 Million in annual external research expenditures. The Statler College is nationally recognized for high quality teaching, excellent research, and outstanding faculty and students. The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering has 30 tenure-track or tenured faculty, 12 non-tenure track faculty, and 7 postdocs, over 640 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. It offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels, including dual B.S. degrees in mechanical, aerospace, and robotic engineering, M.S. and Ph.D degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering, and materials science.

Qualifications

Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment. Expertise in materials synthesis, electrochemical characterization techniques, and microstructural characterization is required.
