Assistant Superintendent
Description/Job Summary

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for general support of the superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent supervises a specific part of the project and is responsible for safety, overall coordination, and the use and care of tools within that area of responsibility. The Assistant Superintendent may also be assigned as the site safety officer, environmental control officer, or other specialty responsibility, if duly qualified.
The Assistant Superintendent reports functionally to the Superintendent and administratively to the Director of Field Operations.

Responsibilities/Duties

Support of Superintendent

  • Collect subcontractor manpower reports
  • Fill out daily reports
  • Handle deliveries
  • Solve problems - if assistant cannot solve, then present to Superintendent

Supervise Specific Part of Project

  • Must be able to coordinate subcontractor with help from Superintendent
  • Must be able to direct Grunley manpower
  • Must be able to read, understand and communicate information from construction drawings and specifications

Safety

  • Perform safety meetings
  • Monitor project for unsafe conditions
  • Give direction to correct unsafe condition

Coordination

  • Coordinate work with subcontractors
  • Coordinate Grunley work with schedule

Tools

  • Maintain tools
  • Inventory tools


Required Experience

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Foreman or Field Engineer and knowledge of multiple construction trades. In lieu of degree, must have eight (8) years of construction experience and knowledge of multiple construction trades.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be capable of learning new technical and non-technical information and applying it in the field in relatively short time periods.
  • Must be able to take and give direction and be able to communicate clearly with staff at all levels of field operations.
  • Must be a self-starter who can execute and complete assigned activities.
Required Education
High School diploma/GED.
Preferred Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Business.
Required Qualifications
Certifications:
  • 10 hour OSHA
  • CPR Certified
  • First Aid Certified (current or be able to obtain before project start date)
