Job Description:

Responsible for identifying problem situations, formulating solutions and adapting in the area of follow through to successfully complete tasks. Assists with the implementation of procedures and arrangements necessary to efficiently carry out the curricular, instructional support goals, and daily facility and equipment needs of the Department of Communication. Assists with technology upkeep and is responsible for the care and use of Center facilities and equipment by campus and community constituents. Assists in troubleshooting TigerTV and KRTU operations and needs and works with faculty to ensure harmonious operations of the Richardson Communications Center. Acts as a liaison and teacher's assistant to the faculty and staff, mentoring and providing additional instruction to students to support the curricular needs of the department. Responsible for the overall care and condition of center facilities.

  • Lab hardware and software maintenance, customization, and troubleshooting.

Supports faculty, staff, and volunteers in use of department equipment and facilities by overseeing the daily function of media-lab and computer workstations (e.g., testing equipment, updating software and operating system installation, customizing workspaces to match faculty preferences, troubleshooting hardware and software failures, maintaining hardware drivers).

  • Television and radio station support.

Responsible for seeing that studio and control areas are functional, orderly, and troubleshoots any studio or station needs as requested by the supervisor. Helps supervise TigerTV daily operations and assists with live show support for students. Serves as project manager for projects pertaining to KRTU and TigerTV operations.

  • Instructional technology.

Serves as teaching assistant in one-hour apprenticeship courses, acts ascomputer mentor helping students troubleshoot daily software problems encountered in Adobe Creative Suite and other lab software applications, consults with all 9 faculty members in the department about how to incorporate technology resources in their classes, steps in to solve daily problems with projectors, classroom computers and screens, and acts as secondary oversight and maintenance supervisor of our extensive department equipment library. Provides additional trainings and orientations on department facilities and resources as requested by faculty, students, and staff.

  • Customize and synthesize third-party applications to address department needs.

Researches, designs, and implements synthetic technical solutions as needs emerge. For example, developing and documenting streamlined procedures for scheduling department facilities and checking out equipment by integrating Snipe-IT database, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Gmail, and Calendly.

  • Technical writing.

Collects and disseminates information among staff and faculty regarding equipment and procedural needs. Provides consultation on the designing and writing of technical documents, developing technical documents as needed by department faculty, staff, and students. Streamlines workflows and develops a documentation library related to the Communication Department.

  • Marketing strategy.

Gathers, analyzes, and maintains a system of record keeping and report-generation for data analytics gathered across all online platforms. Designs marketing plans guided by metrics to enhance visibility of TigerTV and KRTU to potential donors, members, current students, and prospective students. Provides guidance to students in marketing and outreach roles in KRTU and Tiger TV to determine effective marketing methods and provide additional learning opportunities.

  • Technology planning.

Develops modern systems and processes to keep studio equipment and technology resources up-to-date, and conducts research to determine appropriate cost-effective solutions. Coordinates with technology vendors and support providers to maintain, repair, and purchase studio equipment and department technology. Assists Communication Operations Manager in forecasting technology needs for the television station, the radio station, and the department of communication.

  • Community outreach and field support.

Identifies opportunities for interdepartmental collaboration, coordinates special events to enhance the visibility of KRTU and TigerTV to the campus and the greater San Antonio community, and assists with technical needs offsite regarding radio remote broadcasts and special events.

EDUCATION

Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

One year of technical support experience in a television production and/or production management professional broadcast station environment.

Education above what is minimally required may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred:

Three years of freelance television production and post-production experience.

Three years of live and studio audio production experience

Experience in graphic design and interface design

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

Knowledge of audio and television equipment, both studio and OB (outdoor broadcast).

Working knowledge of all phases of television and audio production.

Understanding of computer systems and their operation.

Operational knowledge of PC and Mac computer devices to troubleshoot hardware and software.

Ability to edit video and audio.

Ability to edit photos and graphics editing.

Ability to work and cooperate with students in television, audio and graphic design production.

Ability to troubleshoot various types of audio and video hardware and technology.
