The Senior IT Application Analyst position is an advanced position and is responsible for medium to large applications and specific feature/functions of larger systems. This includes participation and all aspects of support, maintenance, configuration management and system upgrades. Emphasis for the position will be on complex applications. Mentoring of other and taking on more leadership roles.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains and Supports Existing Computer Applications:

  • Proactively monitor customer satisfaction with applications to ensure they continue to meet their needs. Communicate system changes and issues.
  • Work with the customer to identify, prioritize, and schedule enhancements and problem resolution.
  • Logs, monitors, documents and resolves application software problems either directly or with the assistance of others (e.g. Infrastructure staff, other application staff, the vendor, etc.)
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze root cause trends for ways to prevent repeated future problems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including the installation of service packs, patches, hot fixes, etc.
  • Monitors vendor software releases and tests/implements upgrades or maintenance patches to ensure current version is supportable.
  • Liaison with IT infra-structure regarding hardware, operating system, interface and network requirements to ensure system reliability, performance and recoverability. Fully document backup and recovery processes and test these to ensure reliability as the system setups change.

Participates in the Implementation of New Computer Applications:

  • Develops appropriate workplans for implementation of new applications. This includes all tasks necessary to successfully implement software applications into our environment including infrastructure, applications, interfaces and coordination with customers and/or Systems Analyst.
  • Coordinates with IT infrastructure groups to ensure application implementations are executed according to plan.
  • Identify and learn appropriate software applications used and supported by the organization. Assist in the assessing of new applications for fit into our technical environment balancing customer need with technical feasibility. Use this knowledge to ensure the impacts of new applications on existing are addressed.
  • Develops backup strategies for applications and tests their viability. Also develops and implements applications in a way that ensures we can recover from disasters.
  • With the help of IT infrastructure staff, develops appropriate tests environments so future releases of software can be successfully implemented with appropriate change control.
  • Manages healthy vendor relationships that ensure implementations and problems associated with implementation are resolved.
  • Coordinates and plans all levels of testing including unit testing, integrated testing, user acceptance testing and training.
  • Plans and implements data conversions and other go-live steps as required.
  • Creates and maintains documentation for application and customer service center support.

Assesses User Department Computer Applications / Solutions:

  • Provides technical application guidance as new software solutions are assessed and implemented in our technical environment. This effort is closely coordinated with IT Infrastructure staff.
  • Assesses various software vendors for best fit into our technical environment as part of the overall software evaluation process (this includes applications that run internally or from external sites).
  • Assesses customer needs and guides them on how to pursue new initiatives.

Leadership:

  • Provides guidance and leadership to other application analysts on applications. Responsible for mentoring others to implement and maintain applications. Ensures sufficient backup for their responsibilities is established. This guidance is provided for simple to complex applications.
  • Takes responsibility for leading others to pursue and solve difficult problems. This includes leading other application analyst, specialty groups, vendors and customers. This leadership is provided for simple to complex applications.
  • Provides technical application project leadership for simple to complex applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in, Computer Science or related fields, or experience consistent with the Application Analyst job responsibilities.
  • Four to six years of experience in Information Technology.
  • A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
