Full-time - 40 hours weekly | Overnight shift 11:00pm -7:30am |Rotating weekends and required to sign up for at least 1 holiday per year

ChristianaCare is currently seeking a Sterile Processing Technician II. The primary responsibilities of this role include cleaning, inspecting, sterilizing, and decontaminating surgical instruments for use in the Operating Room as well as other ancillary departments. The technician will also serve as a service line expert and preceptor to new employees, interns, and students in Sterile Processing. This is to ensure that all orientation requirements or provisional requirements set by HSPA/CRCST are met.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follows instrument decontamination procedures, according to the checklist and guidelines.

Operates cleaning equipment (i.e. ultrasonic cleaner, washer decontaminators, cart washer, AER), including all sterilization equipment and the cart lift.

Identifies, removes, and replaces broken and improperly functioning surgical instruments.

Reassembles instruments into their assigned trays according to instrument tray list by configuration and number.

Locates missing items and instruments from instrument sets, instrument boards, bins, or extra instruments in the trays.

Uses knowledge and skills to utilize biological indicators in the sterilization process, adhering to quality control requirements.

Identifies, wraps, and labels items properly for steam, Sterrad and gas sterilization.

Pulls case carts for surgical procedures and completes missing item slips for carts that are incomplete.

Restocks supplies in instrument, decontamination area, sterilization processing area, and case cart area according to checklist or par levels.

Works constructively with other members of the health care team.

Responds to emergency situations by notifying appropriate person and taking direction from the appropriate person.

Compliance with mandatory education requirements and mandatory tests by time given.

Maintains an attitude of helpfulness, courtesy, and cooperation toward others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school graduate or equivalent and/or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Current National CRCST or HSPA certification and/or a minimum of 2 years of hospital sterile processing experience.

HSPA CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) or HSPA CER (Certified Endoscope Reprocessor)
